Located on the northeastern shore of Erhai Lake in Dali, Shuanglang Ancient Town is often praised as “the most beautiful town of Cangshan and Erhai.” Surrounded by mountains on three sides and facing the lake on one, it sits like a piece of jade nestled between the landscape — an ideal escape for those seeking peace and slow living.

Once a Bai ethnic fishing village with a history spanning over a thousand years, Shuanglang played an important role as a naval base during the Nanzhao Kingdom, and later became a trading port along the Ancient Tea-Horse Road during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Today, its stone-paved streets connect traditional Bai-style houses, featuring white walls, grey tiles, and classic courtyard layouts such as “three courtyards with one screen wall” and “four-sided courtyards with five patios.” Intricately carved gates, local handicrafts, and everyday life reflect the rich cultural heritage of the Bai people. As you walk through the town, you’ll encounter indigo tie-dye fabrics, delicate embroidery, and the aroma of freshly grilled rushan (milk fan), blending tradition with daily life.
