Yi Fah Kopitiam is a long-running spot in Ipoh, operating since 1955 and best known for its curry noodles. The setting is a traditional kopitiam — simple, no-frills, and very local in feel. You’ll see more locals than tourists here. Their curry noodles lean towards a richer and heavier flavor. The dry version has a thick curry paste that coats the noodles well, while the chicken portions are quite generous. The soup version is slightly lighter with a hint of creaminess, making it more balanced when paired with roast pork and flat noodles. They also serve a tea egg, which is a bit different from the usual braised egg and worth trying if you want something extra. Overall, it’s not a trendy spot, but if you’re after a more traditional and flavorful bowl of curry noodles, this is a solid place to check out.

Walking into the shop, you’ll immediately get that old-school kopitiam vibe — white tiles, old ceiling fans, and vintage photos on the walls, giving it a relaxed and nostalgic feel. Food-wise, it leans more towards average. The chicken is smooth and tender, but not particularly memorable, and it’s typically served in portions for at least two people. The bean sprouts, oil rice, and hor fun are all decent and consistent, but nothing really stands out. For two people, the bill comes to around RM45, which feels fairly average in terms of value. Overall, it’s more suitable if you want to experience the local kopitiam atmosphere. If you’re coming purely for the food, it might not be necessary to go out of your way.

Located in Ipoh Old Town, Tuck Kee Restaurant is a long-established eatery founded in 1963, known for its authentic wok-fried dishes and rich local flavors. It has long been a favorite supper spot among locals. The open kitchen allows diners to watch the cooking process, while the aroma of wok-fried noodles fills the space, creating a lively and comforting atmosphere. The place becomes busier in the evening, with many regular customers, giving it a relaxed and authentic local vibe. 📍 Recommended Dishes • Moonlight Hor Fun The signature dish of the restaurant.

1.4 km

Concubine Lane is one of the more popular spots in Ipoh, a short alley filled with snacks, desserts, and souvenir shops. I went there quite early, before 9am, and most of the shops were still closed, so it felt pretty quiet. Shops generally start opening after 9am. The area has a restored old-town feel with colorful touches, making it quite photogenic, though it can get crowded later in the day. Overall, it’s a casual place to walk around and try some snacks. If you want to experience the livelier side of it, it’s better not to go too early.

M Roof Hotel

3.7 km

M Roof Hotel & Residences offers a straightforward and comfortable stay. The room size isn’t large, but it’s just right for a short stay — not cramped, but not overly spacious either. Cleanliness is one of its stronger points. The room feels neat and well-kept, the bed is comfortable, and the bathroom is properly maintained, making the stay feel reliable. Facilities are practical, including an outdoor pool, gym, as well as a restaurant and café. There’s also a 24-hour front desk, free WiFi, and free parking, which makes it convenient for short stays or road trips. The hotel is located in a quieter area, which is great for resting at night. However, it’s about a 10-minute drive to Ipoh Old Town, so you’ll likely need a car or ride-hailing. Overall, it’s a good option if you’re looking for a clean, quiet, and fuss-free place to stay in Ipoh.

3.9 km

Ling Sen Tong is a cave temple in the Gunung Rapat area, located along the same route as Sam Poh Tong and Nam Thean Tong. Its style is a bit different from more traditional temples, with brighter colors and a stronger presence of Chinese mythology elements. You’ll find statues of figures like Sun Wukong, the Eight Immortals, and various deities, along with a dragon sculpture at the entrance, giving it a more distinctive look. The overall space is relatively small and can be explored quickly, making it more of a short stop along the route. Outside, there’s a small courtyard with a pond, bridge, and koi fish, set against limestone hills, creating a comfortable environment to walk around. Overall, it’s a smaller stop that fits nicely into a cave temple route without needing much time.

4.1 km

Nam Thean Tong is one of the well-known cave temples in the Gunung Rapat area, often visited together with Ling Sen Tong and Sam Poh Tong. It is primarily a Taoist temple built within a natural limestone cave. Inside, the rock formations blend with the temple structures, creating a distinctive atmosphere. Various deities are enshrined, giving the space a more solemn and traditional feel. The cave interior isn’t overly complex, but the combination of natural rock and incense-filled surroundings makes it quite unique. Outside, there’s a small courtyard with a pond, koi fish, and turtles, set against limestone hills, providing a more relaxing environment. Overall, it’s one of the more classic stops along the cave temple route and worth including in your visit.
