Ling Sen Tong is a cave temple in the Gunung Rapat area, located along the same route as Sam Poh Tong and Nam Thean Tong. Its style is a bit different from more traditional temples, with brighter colors and a stronger presence of Chinese mythology elements. You’ll find statues of figures like Sun Wukong, the Eight Immortals, and various deities, along with a dragon sculpture at the entrance, giving it a more distinctive look. The overall space is relatively small and can be explored quickly, making it more of a short stop along the route. Outside, there’s a small courtyard with a pond, bridge, and koi fish, set against limestone hills, creating a comfortable environment to walk around. Overall, it’s a smaller stop that fits nicely into a cave temple route without needing much time.

0.1 km

Nam Thean Tong is one of the well-known cave temples in the Gunung Rapat area, often visited together with Ling Sen Tong and Sam Poh Tong. It is primarily a Taoist temple built within a natural limestone cave. Inside, the rock formations blend with the temple structures, creating a distinctive atmosphere. Various deities are enshrined, giving the space a more solemn and traditional feel. The cave interior isn’t overly complex, but the combination of natural rock and incense-filled surroundings makes it quite unique. Outside, there’s a small courtyard with a pond, koi fish, and turtles, set against limestone hills, providing a more relaxing environment. Overall, it’s one of the more classic stops along the cave temple route and worth including in your visit.

Kin Loong Valley’s Chang Jiang White Coffee is one of the more unique spots in Ipoh. It’s not just about eating — it’s more of a combined experience of café, sightseeing, and a short walk in nature. You can choose to sit near the cave or indoors. The outdoor seating, shaded by limestone formations, feels naturally cooler even on hot days. The indoor area follows a traditional kopitiam style, with the cave setting adding a different atmosphere. Behind the café, there’s a small white coffee display area showing old roasting tools and packaging. Further in, there’s a short path leading into the valley, with greenery and natural rock formations, nice for a casual walk. Food-wise, it’s simple and typical kopitiam fare. Toast and drinks are solid and reliable, while the egg tart is more average and not particularly memorable. Overall, the main draw here is the setting and experience. It’s a good place to take a break, have a coffee by the cave, and explore a bit of nature at the same time.

Perak Tong is one of the more commonly mentioned cave temples in Ipoh, though it’s not particularly large and can be explored fairly quickly. Inside, you’ll find a limestone cave filled with various Guanyin statues and other Buddhist figures. Combined with the natural rock formations, it creates a calm and slightly solemn atmosphere. The environment is generally quiet and not overly commercialized, making it a peaceful place to walk through. Overall, it’s a short stop that fits well into a cave temple route if you’re already in the area.

Da Seng Ngan Temple is one of the more unique cave temples in the Gunung Rapat area, located just behind Sam Poh Tong, and it’s easy to miss if you don’t know about it. The temple is built within a natural limestone cave, and much of the rock formation is left intact. You can still see natural textures and marks over time, which gives the place a more raw and authentic feel. The Buddha statues blend naturally into the cave setting, creating a quiet and slightly solemn atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you naturally slow down as you walk through. Outside, there are simple open areas with greenery and limestone hills, making the surroundings feel calm and pleasant. Overall, if you’re exploring the Ipoh cave temple route, this is a quieter stop that’s worth taking your time to walk through.

Yi Fah Kopitiam is a long-running spot in Ipoh, operating since 1955 and best known for its curry noodles. The setting is a traditional kopitiam — simple, no-frills, and very local in feel. You’ll see more locals than tourists here. Their curry noodles lean towards a richer and heavier flavor. The dry version has a thick curry paste that coats the noodles well, while the chicken portions are quite generous. The soup version is slightly lighter with a hint of creaminess, making it more balanced when paired with roast pork and flat noodles. They also serve a tea egg, which is a bit different from the usual braised egg and worth trying if you want something extra. Overall, it’s not a trendy spot, but if you’re after a more traditional and flavorful bowl of curry noodles, this is a solid place to check out.
